The Tonga National Leadership Code Consultations
An initiative supported by AusAID's Pacific Leadership Program, the Tonga National Leadership Development Forum (TNLDF) brings together leaders from civil society, the church, members of the nobility as well as the public and private sectors. Based on evidence that a focused group of influential and willing leaders can affect significant change, the TNLDF was established as an experiment -- putting evidence to practice. Upon the completion of a scoping study, members of the TNLDF decided to take the leadership discussion to communities nationwide, and embarked on consultations for a National Leadership Code. The Tonga National Leadership Code is envisaged as an aspirational document reflecting the values of all levels of Tongan society with respect to leadership. Leadership Codes for Eua and Ha'apai have been launched, with consultations around the Tongatapu, Niuatoputapu and Niuafo'ou Leadership Codes currently underway. Once the Island Leadership Codes have been completed, they will be incorporated into a National Leadership Code, with plans to make a submission for Cabinet endorsement.
