Lemalu Sina Retzlaffon: Thinking and Working Politically in the Pacific
Lemalu Sina Retzlaffon, Samoa Country Representative of the Pacific Leadership Program Presentation at 'Power, Politics and Positive Deviance' - DLP Annual Conference 2016 February, La Trobe University, Melbourne Lemalu will explore how ‘thinking and working politically’ is a form of positive deviance. In Samoa, there has been recent a move, driven by Sina, to encourage women to attend male-dominated village council meetings. Sina will use this example to discuss how a better understanding of the political environment we are working in can help us bring about more effective social change. She will highlight power sharing and relation-ship building as key aspects of what it means to ‘think and work politically’. The process of relationship building itself is valuable: Sina will explore how this is done, and the benefits of deviating to work in this way.
