Mentoring Program

Could you assist an emerging leader to reach their full potential?

A major PLP initiative during 2011 is the launch of PLP's Mentoring Program. As part of this program, we are seeking established business and community leaders to mentor emerging leaders across the Pacific Islands.

PLP is part of a network of organisations and individuals that focuses on leadership at regional and national levels. For more than two years, PLP has worked closely with Pacific organisations on a broad range of initiatives, and consulted with its Advisory Panel on key issues relating to leadership in the region. It is evident that there is no shortage of leaders in the Pacific, from government and public sector through to church and community groups. However, there appears to be a lack of opportunity – aside from one-off conferences or meetings – for bringing established leaders together with emerging ones, to impart their knowledge and experience and reflect on the challenges of “how to lead” in the Pacific.

The PLP Mentoring Initiative was established to address this issue. The Mentoring Program is designed to:

  • Create stronger, enduring relationships between established and emerging Pacific Leaders

  • Promote knowledge sharing, trust and mutual understanding, and

  • Equip established and emerging Pacific Leaders with knowl, skills, networks and profile to become more effective leaders.

Who we are looking for

The key to the success of the mentoring program is identifying suitable mentors to participate in the program. We require senior leaders and high achievers who are already established in their chosen field. And importantly we require leaders who are willing to be role models and to share their knowledge and wisdom.

How much time is required?

We recognise that senior leaders are busy people and that your time is very precious. The investment, however, of a relatively small amount of time (a few hours a month) can make a significant impact on someone’s personal development. As a mentor you will be provided with all the necessary tools and resources you need to fulfil your role, including reimbursement for all out-of-pocket expenses related to your role as a mentor. All we require is a small element of your time and your passion for developing people and contributing to the overall development of the Pacific Islands.
