The Pacific Leadership Program team took some time last week (January 12 - 16) to reflect on learnings from the past six months and refocus on priorities and partnerships for the coming year.
Tony Liston, Director of the Leadership Policy Section (LPS) of AusAID Canberra and Chris Wheeler, Director of the Developmental Leadership Program (DLP) joined in on discussions, sharing their insights on how PLP can strengthen its support for Pacific leaders and leadership organizations to shape and drive developmental change. Sky Milchman from AusAID Canberra was also present.
PLP partnerships and activities in the Program's four focus countries - Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands - were discussed, with the view to become more effective and add value in its work while addressing current and future challenges.
Siale Ilolahia of the Civil Society Forum of Tonga (CSFT) and PLP Program Officer Mereani Rokotuibau presented on the formation of the Tonga National Leadership Development Forum (TNLDF) and the community consultations that have begun in Tonga, facilitated by the TNLDF, towards the formulation of a National Leadership Code.
Women's leadership was also on the agenda. PLP's Regional Manager Sandra Kraushaar shared some observations of some of the latest developments in women's leadership in the Pacific and how PLP can contribute to raising the profile of women leaders.
The six-monthly 'Reflection and Refocus' sessions allow PLP to take stock of events and to identify critical junctures for developmental change. The PLP team aims to absorb the lessons from the week of reflection and to apply them in the year ahead, supporting Pacific leaders and leadership organizations in transforming their societies for the better.
