Welcome to the Pacific Leadership Program

The Pacific Leadership Program (PLP) is a regional initiative of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) based in Suva, Fiji. Recognising the pivotal role leadership plays at all levels in a nation's path to development, the Program is a resource for emerging and established Pacific leaders, to strengthen their individual and organisational capacities as effective actors for positive developmental change.

PLP supports influential Pacific leaders to shape and lead the developmental change they want to see in their region. The Program understands that leadership is exercised at all levels of society and involves more than just the people at the top of states and organisations.

With local ownership of such critical importance to the work of PLP, the Program does not come pre-prepared with solutions but distinguishes Pacific leaders as the architects and drivers of the region's development. Pacific people everywhere can identify a shared ambition and influence and act with others to achieve it.

As such, PLP supports leaders in exercising leadership for a purpose - the Program supports them to identify and act on issues that contribute to community, national and regional development.contributing to developmental change by achieving gains on an issue they identify as important for their community. Such issues identified by PLP partners include women's political representation, local economic development and youth employment.

In supporting leaders to address these issues, the Program works across a variety of sectors, including public, private, civil society and with traditional leaders. PLP builds frank and honest partnerships with Pacific leaders and aims to be responsive, opportunistic and catalytic in its approach to development.
